You can find cheaper deals if you move further away from the city center to the township areas.

However, as you move out of the CBD area toward areas considered as Central, e.g., Morningside, Essenwood, Musgrave, etc, rentals become pricy, while on the other side, such as Glenwood, etc, rentals are still high but not as high as Essenwood, etc. In the townships, rentals are quite affordable with beautiful properties too.

The North, which includes Umhlanga, La Lucia, Ballito, etc, is the chosen area for the upcoming and old money. The rental is a standout.

Outer West, such as Hillcrest, Kloof, Everton, and Waterfall, is seeing some new developments. These areas are also known for being pricy but sometimes affordable for high-end properties.

Westville rental is close to that of Hillcrest.

According to a report by Numbeo, a typical utility bill (including electricity, heating, and water) in Durban is around ZAR 1,800 per month. The cost of the internet usually ranges between ZAR 600 and ZAR 1,000 per month, depending on the plan you choose.
